Gunslinger Spawn #1 is published by Image Comics, written by Todd McFarlane, illustrated by Brett Booth, coloured by Andrew Dalhouse and lettered by Tom Orzechowski.

Issue #1 is available now directly from Image Comics or from your local comic book shops. Digital copies will be available to download from the usual content providers.

    Synopsis

Introducing the launch of the second new monthly title spinning out of the SPAWN UNIVERSE, with one of the most popular characters in the entire SPAWN mythology! This book contains three separate GUNSLINGER stories, each taking a look at his journey through time—from the wild, wild west to the 21st century. Will his 200-year-old past come back to haunt him as he navigates the strange world of 2021? Get ready for the past and present to collide in this new ongoing title!

    Review

A legendary character from comic world that needs no introduction Spawn, brings back one of the characters from the Spawn mythology, Gunslinger Spawn.

Issue #1 of the Gunslinger series is a collection of smaller stories bringing together the different paths that Spawn follows on his Gunslinger journey, from the old wild west to modern day, we get to see how Spawn handles being in the different situations. I will admit I personally found the old wild west theme fitted the character better and the story seemed to flow better in that setting.

Todd McFarlane, a legend himself in the comic world, expertly writes yet another Spawn story that stays true to the popular mythology but reinvents the character with a freshness that works perfectly, I found issue #1 to be a book I just couldn’t put down, each page was spellbinding weaving through Spawns time hopping journey.

If I was to make a criticism, albeit a small one, I did find the jump between stories a bit confusing and would’ve preferred it stayed with the wild west them as that worked better than the modern story.

As with most Spawn comics you know you will be getting top level creativity and put standing art on each page, issue #1 is certainly no different with each page a work of art that truly captures the feel of Spawn, stellar work from the whole creative team.

    Verdict

Excellent story combined with top level illustration make for a must have comic for any Spawn fan, you won’t be disappointed with this new story arc I’m looking forward to see what is next as there are signs of something big is coming (no spoilers).
