It’s been two years since our screens were graced with a new Star Wars movie. Following The Rise of Skywalker the franchise has set its sights squarely on the small screen with the success of its Disney+ series.
One glimmer of hope in the future of the big-screen franchise was director Patty Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron. Just 10 months ago the studios announced that the Wonder Woman 1984 director would helm the movie centred on a squad of fighter pilots in a galaxy far, far away.
But now The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed the film has been removed from Disney and Lucasfilm’s release schedule. It’s understood that the “indefinite” delay is due to Jenkins’ other commitments though it is unclear what those commitments are. We know Jenkins has the third Wonder Woman film and a Cleopatra biopic in development, both starring Gal Gadot.
Despite the setback it’s understood the studio is adamant that the project will still go ahead at some point in the future. For now, Rogue Squadron‘s December 22, 2023 release date remains empty.
In case you missed it, here’s the film’s announcement video featuring Jenkins:
