Well, this was unexpected. The Suicide Squad star Idris Elba is joining Paramount’s Sonic The Hedgehog 2. Who will he be voicing? that’s none other than the red short-beaked Echidna Knuckles.
In the video games, Knuckles serves as a protector of the Master Emerald and is always seen donning his white spiked gloves- hence his name. He first appeared in 1994’s Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and has since then grown in popularity.
Idris Elba shared the news via Twitter this evening and gave us our first look at the Red Echidna. The fist alone was enough. We all instantly knew what it meant and we cannot wait to see what Elba does with the role.

After settling in Green Hills, Sonic is ready for more freedom, and Tom and Maddie agree to leave him home while they go on vacation. But, no sooner are they gone, when Dr. Robotnik comes back, this time with a new partner, Knuckles, in search for an emerald that has the power to both build and destroy civilizations. Sonic teams up with his own sidekick, Tails, and together they embark on a journey to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands.
Once again directed by Jeff Fowler, Sonic 2 reunites Jim Carrey, James Marsden, Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz. The sequel is due in cinemas on April 8, 2022.
