A couple of weeks ago we were lucky enough to attend a press conference with the cast of James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. The conference was also attended by long-time DC Films procures Charles Roven and Peter Safran. In this new interview the three talk about how they approached creating the insane world of the movie.
“I could not believe that I went in with an idea that stayed stable from the first time I pitched it to the guys at Warner’s, you know, with with Peter and Chuck to the very end” says Gunn. “But I think that just the fact that I knew that I was being entrusted with this enormous amount of freedom on such a big budget movie, I really did feel a huge responsibility to people to do it the best I could.”
“The first time James came in and pitched the idea that one of the primary characters was going to be a 200 foot pink starfish. Once you get over that, once you get over that there’s nothing else” added Safran.
“Well, the amazing thing about it was it was a consistent escalation. We heard the pitch and then we heard how James wanted to execute the script. And that was fantastic experience of that” said Roven.
