Winston Duke and Jason Isaacs have joined the cast of DC Comics Batman Unburied audio play from writer David S. Goyer. Unburied is the first play to be produced as part of DC’s overall development deal with Spotify announced in June 2020.
Duke, best known for playing M’Baku in 2018’s Black Panther, will voice Bruce Wayne with Isaacs (Harry Potter) taking on the role of Alfred Pennyworth. No other castings have yet been announced.
Spotify has shared new plot details about the podcast, which is described as a psychological thriller that dives into the mind of Bruce Wayne and features dark twists and classic Batman villains.
The longline reads: “When audiences meet Bruce Wayne he is a forensic pathologist, working in the bowels of Gotham Hospital and tasked with examining the victims of The Harvester, a gruesome serial killer preying on Gotham’s citizens. Not only will the superhero be forced to face his own mental demons, but he will also have to overcome them in order to save the citizens of Gotham as his alter-ego Batman.”
No release date has been set for the podcast, which will tell the tale story over one season. A release plan — i.e. whether episodes will drop weekly or all at once — is also unknown.
Batman Unburied is executive produced by Goyer, Keith Levine and Gracie Wheelan for Phantom Four; Liz Gateley and Elena Blekhter for Spotify; physical production comes from Wolf at the Door; and Alex Kemp directs. Batman Unburied is written by Eric Carrasco, Saladin Ahmed and Rebecca Klingel, who serve as executive producers. The podcast is also written by co-executive producer Graham Westerson.
