With A Quiet Place Part II and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It coming out in the coming weeks, today seems like a great opportunity to explore and celebrate the terrifying genre in different formats. Sure, watching a horror movie in the dark can be pretty scary. But nothing beats the feeling of sitting alone totally engrossed in a haunting book. Say hello to Chuck Wendig’s The Book of Accidents.
Nathan Graves was a little boy living in with his abusive father in a remote house hidden way in the Pennsylvania mountains. Maddie was a little girl making dolls in her bedroom when she saw something she shouldn’t have.
Now married, Nathan and Maddie have spent their lives hiding away from the pasts that haunt them. But when Nathan’s father dies and passes down the family house to them, the Graves family decide to leave behind the chaos of the city and move back to their quiet hometown with their young son, Oliver.
But before long, the terrible things that happened all those years ago are happening again, and this time to Oliver. When Oliver meets a strange boy with secrets of his own and a taste for dark magic, the Graves family have no idea that what comes next will stake them at the centre of a terrifying battle between good and evil. Because something sinister, something hungry, stalks this quiet Pennsylvania town, and the Graves family will find themselves in a fight for their very souls, and perhaps those of the whole world.
