Gosh it feels good to be able to write commentary on the worldwide box office again. After over a year without cinemas things are beginning to return to normal. That means we have news for those of you who like to keep track of the numbers.
After opening incredibly well, surpassing all expectations, last week Godzilla vs. Kong continues its strong performance. The Warner Bros. release has now surpassed a global tally of $358M after adding another $24.1M from international markets. At home in the US, the monster mash-up grossed a further $13.4M after expanding to a little over 3,000 screens. It’s domestic total now sits at $69.5M.
It was a good weekend all round for Warner Bros. as Mortal Kombat made its debut in 17 international markets. Opening in markets including Russia, Saudi Arabia, and Taiwan, the film grossed a little under $11M.
Godzilla vs. Kong is currently available in theatres and on HBO Max in the US. Here in the UK you can currently catch the film on PVOD rental platforms. Mortal Kombat arrives in the US on April 23 with UK dates to be confirmed.
