The big screen adaption of hit musical Wicked has been in pipeline for more than 10 years. With the current worldwide pandemic has hindering its release further. Wicked was last set to release in December 2021, until the pandemic caused Universal Pictures to shuffle their release slate around. This left Wicked undated completely.
In another blow to the Wicked film adaptation, director Stephen Daldry has decided to leave the production. Leaving on good terms, reportedly Daldry left due to Universal wanting a shorter timespan than Daldry would’ve liked also due to stage space the film couldn’t be shot in London which was an important part for Daldry as he considered this location to be important. According to sources Universal have stepped up their search for his successor as the want the film to be in production by the end of 2021.
