On Monday, it was announced that Disney have moved forward with a brand new Tron movie. Making this new installment the third movie in the franchise. The sequel is being helmed by Lion director Garth Davis, and is being written by Jesse Wigutow.
Jared Leto also took to Social Media to announce his involvement. However, he may have let a slight detail slip… the film’s title. Leto shared his gratitude and excitement towards the project and let slip that the film will be called Tron: Ares.
You can check out the Tweet below.
https://twitter.com/JaredLeto/status/1292942227040157697You may notice that the title doesn’t appear. Well, that’s because the Tweet was deleted and changed. It’s safe to assume that Disney quickly called him up as soon as it went viral. Oops.
However, there is also the possibility that Ares is simply a working title. A lot of big budget films use working titles. The most famous working title being Blue Harvest for Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. Then again, it was reported back in 2017 by THR that Jared Leto was looking to enter the Grid as a character called, you guessed it, Ares.
Besides that, not much is actually known about the project. In 2017 it was reported that it wouldn’t be a direct sequel. Instead, it would be constructed around a scrapped Tron 3 script from 2015, five years after Tron: Legacy. So this could be Disney’s attempt to revive the franchise with more films and a more consistent release pattern.
What do you make of Tron: Ares? Do you think the title will remain the same or will it change? Either way, we’re excited to enter the Grid once again after such a long hiatus. Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
