It’s been a little while since we heard what was next for the Power Rangers franchise on the big screen.
2017’s reboot movie, directed by Dean Israelite, failed to ignite the box office despite striking a chord with fans. Since then the franchise has changed hands to Hasbro with movie rights now sitting with Paramount Pictures, the home of Transformers and G.I. Joe.
The Illuminderi has recently shared some insider info on what the studio has planned for bringing the colourful heroes back to the big screen.
The site has revealed that in the current draft of the script the new team will exist in the continuity of the TV series. That gives them access to almost three decades worth of villains, heroes and storytelling.
The new film will apparently feature a brand new team of heroes, new costumes and, of course, new Zords. It’s said that the new team will be lead by a female hero in place of the standard male archetype role.
Time travel is said to be a factor in the storyline of the new film. The new Rangers will at some point be thrust back to the 90s allowing the story to involve Zordon and the vile Lord Zedd!
The new film is strongly rumoured to be looking at filming in New Zealand. NZ has been home to production on the TV version of the franchise for a number of years now.
