Today we’re taking a look at Cassandra Cain, the youngest and perhaps most updated character in the film. Get to know her character’s comic book origins and find out some key comics and series to devour ahead of the film’s release!
Cassandra Cain
Alias: Orphan/Batgirl
First appearance: Batman #567 (1999)
Bio: Like many of the Birds of PRey characters, Cassandra Cain didn’t have the best start in life. She was raised by her father, the villainous David Cain, who raised her to be a lethal assassin.
He taught her violence above all else forsaking her education in even basic literacy.
Cassandra was originally portrayed as mute and so when she took up the mantle of Batgirl she famously wore a cowl which covered her entire face.
During the Rebirth era the character was introduced with some basic communication skills but still suffers from the same tragic past of her original origin.
Though she has no powers, Cassandra is gifted with lightning fast abilities which allow her to predict an enemies moves in combat. She also has an incredibly strong moral compass, one which led her to Gotham and to Batman.
