Late last night news broke on not one, but two new pieces of casting news for Matt Reeves’ The Batman. Firstly we heard that Venom 2 director Andy Serkis is circling the role of Alfred Pennyworth and this was quickly followed by word that Colin Farrell is in talks to play The Penguin.
The Serkis news was first reported by The Wrap, claiming that Serkis was deep in talks with Warner Bros. The Lord of the Rings actor has previously worked very closely with Reeves on the Planet of the Apes films. With Venom 2 due to enter production soon we wonder what this films for the size of Alfred’s role in The Batman.
Following this came the news that Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them star Colin Farrell is also in talks to join The Batman. According to Deadline, Farrell is now first in line to play Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin.
At the moment there is no news as to the degree of talks the studio has had with Farrell.
Written and directed by Matt Reeves, The Batman is set to star Robert Pattinson in the title role, Zoe Kravitz as Selina Kyle, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon and Paul Dano as Edward Nashton/Nygma.
The Batman is due for release on June 25, 2021.
