A familiar face is set to debut in the eleventh issue of BOOM! Studios Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Kendra, played on the series by Bianca Lawson, will make her debut as part of the on going Hellmouth event (read our review of the first issue here).

We don’t yet know how Kendra will be called in the comic, but given how the Slayer line works it can’t be good news for Buffy!

Read all about it in the press release below:

The New Slayer Makes First Appearance in BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER #11 From BOOM! Studios

Discover New Slayer Kendra as the Consequences of HELLMOUTH Rock Sunnydale in January 2020

BOOM! Studios, in partnership with 20th Century Fox, revealed today that Kendra Young, the iconic Slayer, will make her full First Appearance in BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER #11, from acclaimed writer Jordie Bellaire (Redlands) and artist David López (Captain Marvel), along with visionary writer and director Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Marvel’s The Avengers), available in January 2020.

With a NEW SLAYER in town, it’s up to TEAM KENDRA to save the day! An evil and powerful magic from the open HELLMOUTH has taken over the men of Sunnydale, and it’s up to Willow, Cordelia, and the new Chosen One, Kendra, to fend off the enthralled men of the town or there won’t be a Sunnydale for Buffy to come back to! That is . . . if she’s coming back at all.

BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER #11 features a main cover by Mondo illustrator Marc Aspinall , as well as variant covers by artists Kevin Wada (She-Hulk), Ryan Inzana (Ichiro), and Morgan Beem (The Family Trade), and a connecting variant cover by artist Steve Morris (The Magicians: Alice’s Story) that connects to ANGEL #8 and HELLMOUTH #4.

Created by visionary writer and director Joss Whedon (Marvel’s The Avengers film franchise), Angelpremiered on the WB Network on October 5th, 1999 and was a spin-off from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The series ran for five seasons from 1999–2004, starring David Boreanaz as Angel, the tortured vampire destined to walk the earth with a soul who moved to LA to set up shop as a supernatural private investigator. Despite Angel’s best efforts to deal with the sins of his past all by himself, Angel Investigations soon became home to other lost souls searching for redemption and willing to fight by his side.

BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER is the newest release from BOOM! Studios’ eponymous imprint, home to critically acclaimed original series, including Once & Future by Kieron Gillen and Dan Mora; Something is Killing the Children by James Tynion IV and Werther Dell’Edera; Faithless by Brian Azzarello and Maria Llovet; Abbott by Saladin Ahmed and Sami Kivelä; Bury The Lede by Gaby Dunn and Claire Roe; Klaus by Grant Morrison and Dan Mora; and Folklords by Matt Kindt and Matt Smith. The imprint also publishes popular licensed properties including Joss Whedon’s Firefly from Greg Pak and Dan McDaid; Angel from Bryan Edward Hill and Gleb Melnikov; and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers from Ryan Parrott and Daniele Di Nicuolo.

Print copies of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER #11 will be available for sale on January 1, 2020 exclusively at local comic book shops (use comicshoplocator.com to find the nearest one). Digital copies can be purchased from content providers, including comiXology, iBooks, Google Play, and Madefire.
