This weekend saw Warner Bros. latest comic book adaptation, Joker, open to the world and deliver the largest October domestic weekend of all time with an estimated $93.5 million. Joker is also the 4th largest opening for an R-rated feature- Deadpool and Deadpool 2 are at the top with IT taking 3rd place.
On top of that, Joker is now the number 1 movie domestically and overseas, kicking off with a launch of roughly $234 million globally.
According to Box Office Mojo, Joker opened in 4,374 locations making it the widest October opening. With the opening weekend being the most pivotal for such a huge release, it will be interesting to see how things progress in the next few days.
While opinions surrounding the release have varied, the audience score on both RottenTomatoes and IMDB is still at 91%, whereas the critic score dropped to 69%. The best thing to do is check it out for yourselves, it is not one to be missed. You can read our review here.
The film stars Joaquin Phoenix in the title role, also starring are Zazie Beetz, Bill Camp, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Douglas Hodge, Marc Maron, Josh Pais, and Shea Whigham.
