Joker was already tipped for big things when fans learned it would have its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival.
Over the weekend the festival drew to a close with its annual awards ceremony celebrating the best of the festival. Joker took home the Gold Lion prize for Best Film, the highest honest of the festival.
This is a huge win not just for Todd Phillips and star Joaquin Phoenix, but this is also a huge win for comic book movies in general.
Whilst the win doesn’t guarantee Joker nominations for Golden Globes or Oscars it is a sure fire sign that the film will perform well across the awards season.
With plenty more festival appearances to come Joker has a long road ahead of it. As the film potentially picks up more awards it will only increase interest for when it finally opens in cinemas next month.
