Darren Lynn Bousman’s new Saw reboot only started filming a couple of weeks ago, but word from Lionsgate today is that they’re vacating their Halloween 2020 release date, and moving the movie up five months(!), in favour of a summer release on May 15, 2020.
Does Jigsaw fear the incoming onslaught of Michael Meyers?
Judging from this news, I think so. As this must be a direct reaction from Lionsgate to the news that the Halloween franchise has staked out the next two Halloween’s with their back to back sequels Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends.
Lionsgate does seem to be taking a new approach with the franchise, bringing in unexpected actors like Samuel L. Jackson and Chris Rock, but it remains to be seen if Jigsaw and his traps can fare well in a season that usually isn’t too kind to horror movies.
In the new movie, Chris Rock will be playing a detective attempting to solve some of what we are assuming are Jigsaw’s grisly new crimes, while Jackson will play Rock’s father.
Also in the cast are Max Minghella (The Darkest Hour), and Marisol Nichols (TV’s Riverdale).
