After making two excellent horror movies in the forms of Hereditary and Midsommar, everyone is looking to Ari Aster to see what he will dream up next.
Unexpectedly, it might not actually be a horror movie, at least not right away.
In an AMA session over on Reddit, somebody put the question to Aster on what his future movie plans were, and they got an interesting response;
“Next one will either be a zonky nightmare comedy or a big, sickly domestic melodrama.”
I can’t help but feel Midsommar, with its touches of humor, was already halfway there to a nightmare comedy, but for anyone worried Aster has plans to leave horror, they should have no fear.
“It might take me a few movies before I wind back around to it, but I love horror and I’m sure I’ll be back.”
Aster has previously stated that he has ideas for a third film in the vein of Hereditary and Midsommar, describing the potential film as completing a thematic trilogy, but that as of yet, he doesn’t know what movie to pick next.
Personally, I’m hoping for him to wrap up this as a trilogy, but I’m already sure I will watch whatever the man directs next.
