Today marks a whopping thirty years since the release of Tim Burton’s legendary Batman in 1989.
The movie had its world premiere on June 19, 1989 but began its global rollout from June 23. It would hit UK screens from August 11 of that same year.
Released in the age before social media the film was made without the prying eyes of millions of social media users. The first chance many fans had to see Michael Keaton (Beetlejuice) in costume was with the release of the now rarely seen teaser trailer:
At the time the casting of the usually comedic Keaton caused over 50,000 fans to write to the studio in protest. Yes it turns out petitions date back long before this modern era of comic book movies.
The Hollywood Reporter has published an excellent retrospective including new interviews with cast and crew members including Kim Bassinger and producer Michael Uslan which you can read at the link above.
For now why not sit back and watch the movie one more time to celebrate the anniversary!
