Last week we heard a rumour that Len Wiseman would be stepping in to direct the pilot of Swamp Thing taking over the reigns from James Wan.
Wan, also executive producing the series, has decided to take a step back from directing the series opener. Splash Report has learnt that Wiseman is now fully signed up to shoot the pilot when production kicks off later this year.
We also have two snippets of casting info for the series:
Gotham and Teen Wolf actress Crystal Reed has been cast as series lead Abby Arcane. Deadline scooped the internet with the news over the weekend. Reed was mostly recently seen haunting the streets of Gotham against Ben McKenzie in the fourth season of Gotham on FOX. In that series she played Sofia Falcone.
Also, Straight Outta Compton actress Maria Sten has joined the series in the supporting role of Liz Tremayne. This news also comes from the guys and girls of Deadline. Tremayne is described as the no-nonsense “childhood friend of Abby Arcane’s, who splits her time between reporting for the local paper and bartending at her aging father’s roadhouse bar.”
The series kicks off production later this year.
When CDC researcher Abby Arcane returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus, she develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland — only to have him tragically taken from her. But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp’s mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, both horrifying and wondrous — and the potential love of her life may not be dead after all.
Swamp Thing will premiere on the DC Universe streaming service sometime in 2019/20.
