Upcoming Joker movie to follow ‘The Killing Joke’ origin?

A new rumour from The Wrap is pointing to a familiar origin for The Joker is his solo movie. Todd Phillips’ planned  origin movie is said to portray Batman’s arch-nemesis as a failed 1980s comedian. His transformation in to the clown prince of crime is triggered by his failure to connect with audiences.

It is said that Martin Scorsese is still involved with the production and that Joaquin Phoenix is close to finalising a deal to take the lead role. The film is said to be eyeing a mid-to-late-2018 start date for production.

In The Killing Joke the character was a failing backstreet comic who turned to crime in order to feed his family. Tragic events which followed would lead to his ultimate transformation in to Joker.
