This past Sunday finally saw the premier of Star Trek: Discovery. The much anticipated (and previously delayed) sixth live action series in the Star Trek franchise saw its first episode air of CBS whilst it’S second episode made the jump to online subscription platform CBS All Access.
The series will continue its fifteen episode debut run via the subscription service in the US. International audiences are able to catch the series weekly via Netflix.
The first episode – ‘The Vulcan Hello’ – premiered to a live audience of approximately 8.2m. Those numbers are likely to increase once the +3 and+7 day time shifted audience figures are added. Although those numbers are low for a Trek premiere it’s worth noting that it’s been sixteen years since the pilot of Enterprise brought in over 12m viewers.

Star Trek, one of the most iconic and influential global television franchises, returns to television 50 years after it first premiered with STAR TREK: DISCOVERY. The series will feature a new ship, new characters and new missions, while embracing the same ideology and hope for the future that inspired a generation of dreamers and doers. The series will premiere on the CBS Television Network with all subsequent episodes available on CBS All Access, the Network’s digital subscription video on demand and live streaming service, and will be distributed concurrently by CBS Studios International on Netflix in 188 countries and in Canada on Bell Media’s Space channel and OTT service CraveTV.
Star Trek: Discovery is produced by CBS Television Studios in association with Alex Kurtzman’s Secret Hideout, Bryan Fuller’s Living Dead Guy Productions and Roddenberry Entertainment. Alex Kurtzman, Bryan Fuller, Heather Kadin, Gretchen J. Berg & Aaron Harberts, Akiva Goldsman, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth serve as executive producers.
The series will star Sonequa Martin-Green in the lead role, as well as James Frain as Sarek, Doug Jones as Lt. Saru, Anthony Rapp as Lt. Stamets, Michelle Yeoh as Captain Georgiou of the Discovery, and Shazad Latif as Klingon officer Kol.
