It’s been another close weekend at the worldwide box office. Whilst Wonder Woman was never expected to retake the top spot questions had been raised over the performance of Transformers: The Last Knight. The fifth film in the Transformers franchise has met with more negativity in the press that previous entries and as all is said and done it has hurt the films performance.

Opening on Tuesday in North America, Transformers: The Last Knight was only able to muster an estimated $69.1m over its first five days. That’s the lowest opening for a Transformers film. Over the three-day weekend the gross sits at $45.3m, again a series low for the Paramount Pictures release.

Much like with The Mummy the international picture is a little different. The Transformers films have become big business in China and this film is no exception. China alone raised an estimated $123.4m. That’s the largest Transformers opening in that market. Overall the film was able to gross $196.2m internationally for a world wide opening of $265.2m.

In her fourth weekend in theatres Wonder Woman once again outperformed her superhero brethren. Dropping only another 39% for a North American gross of $25.175m. The reason for the extra digits there is the rivalry between Warner Bros. and Disney. Wonder Woman has been duking it out with Cars 3 for second place all week. Industry estimates put the DC Films picture ahead of the Pixar release. Studio estimates have both films grossing the exact same amount according to estimations. We’ll need to wait until tomorrows actuals to find out who won the war this time.

In the meantime Wonder Woman has now grossed $318.3m in North America. That’s well beyond the gross of Man of Steel but slightly short of both Suicide Squad and Batman v Superman. Either this week or next the film will pass both of those remaining DCEU entries to become the third highest grossing film in DC Comics history behind only The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises.

Internationally Wonder Woman has begun to shed screens as other films take precedent. That being said the film was still able to gross another $20.5m. The international gross now sits at $334.5m. Worldwide Wonder Woman has now reached $652.8m!
