‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ heading for $140m opening weekend

The Hollywood Reporter is today reporting that after a $56.3m Friday at the domestic box office Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is on course for a $140m opening weekend. The film, directed by James Gunn, took an impressive $17m from Thursday night previews before heading in to a successful weekend.
The films international box office total is currently sitting at $167m as of Thursday. By comparison Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 opened with $94m at the domestic box office before ending its run at $333m, internationally that film grossed $440m.

Set to the backdrop of Awesome Mixtape #2, Marvels Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the teams adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quills true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Karen Gillan, Michael Rooker, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, and Kurt Russell, the film will be released in the UK on April 28th and on May 5th in the US.
