Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is off to a flying start at the international box office. Having opened in 37 markets already the film has taken an estimated $101.2M in its first weekend. According to Deadline that opening is 57% ahead of the first Guardians, 50% bigger than Captain America: The Winter Soldier and 19% above Thor: The Dark World.
Disney along with Marvel Studios has in recent year maximised this late April/early May opening to launch several previous movies in the MCU line. Often to great success. In several key territories Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has opened higher than Captain America: Civil War.
The film has taken the top spot in 34 of the territories in which it has opened and in each of those territories it has also bested its predecessor.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Karen Gillan, Michael Rooker, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, and Kurt Russell, the film will be released in the UK on April 28th and on May 5th in the US.
