Fresh news from the ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ camp today. ‘Gotham’ star James Frain has been cast in the series and will be playing a very familiar character.
Frain joins the series in the role of Sarek, father of original series character Spock. The new was announced via the official ‘Star Trek’ website earlier today.
In other ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ news it would seem the series premier has once again been delayed. Originally due to air its pilot on CBS this month it was initially pushed back to May 2017. The studio has released the below statement on the subject:
“Production on Star Trek: Discovery begins next week. We love the cast, the scripts and are excited about the world the producers have created. This is an ambitious project; we will be flexible on a launch date if it’s best for the show. We’ve said from the beginning it’s more important to do this right than to do it fast. There is also added flexibility presenting on CBS All Access, which isn’t beholden to seasonal premieres or launch windows.”
A finalised premiere date is yet to be announced.
Frain joins series lead Sonequa Martin-Green; Michelle Yeoh as Captain Georgiou, the Starfleet Captain of the Shenzhou; Doug Jones as Lt. Saru, the ships Science Officer who will originate a new alien race to the ‘Star Trek’ franchise and Anthony Rapp as Lt. Stamets, another Starfleet Science Officer aboard Discovery and the first openly gay character in a ‘Star Trek’ TV series. Klingon characters Chris Obi as T’Kuvma, Shazad Latif as Kol and newcomer Mary Chieffo as L’Rell also appear.
