    ‘The Flash’ #7 Review!

“LIGHTNING STRIKES TWICE” part 7! Still reeling from Godspeed’s devastating attack, the beleaguered Flash realizes that to defeat this menacing new foe he must take away the Speed Force power from Central City’s new citizen speedsters. There’s only one problem: they don’t want to give it back.

Pickup your copy of ‘The Flash’ #7 at Comixology now!

After a huge couple of issues ‘The Flash’ continues to escalate its storytelling to epic proportions. Last issue (reviewed here) brought us the huge twist as to the true identity of Godspeed. This issue picks up right where that story left off with some additional flashbacks to fill in the blanks.

Williams has crafted an unbelievably complex, layered story with a swelling support cast on top of this new formidable villain. Godspeed has been a godsend to ‘The Flash’ comics. At first it felt like they were simply adding another speedster to the mix but actually his storyline has been wrought with intense emotion. Here in issue #7 Barry is feeling betrayed as well as backed in to a corner. With only Wally to assist him he makes yet another huge choice that will have ongoing consequences to the series.

There’s time for a mix of high octane action as Flash and Godspeed face of but the issue never forgets its characters. During a lull in the action there’s time for a heart-to-heart between The Flash and Wally who is also hurt by the loss of Meena. This issue is something akin to a season finale on TV or the third act of a movie. It’s relentless and unforgiving to the very end.

Of course this isn’t the end. Williamson still has yet more Godspeed story to tell us before he draws things to a close.

The decision for Wally and Barry to steal the speed from other speedsters made by the storm is a clever one for the story and for the series itself. There’s been few characters to break out of the group and stand out to the audience. This way they are cleverly written out of having powers to help Barry but leaving us with the question of why Barry (aside from being his series) and Wally should get to keep their connection to the Speed Force.

With Godspeed heading towards Iron Heights the next issue is sure to bring things to an exciting climax.

In the meantime what more can I say about Carmine Di Giandomenico and Ivan Plascencia as the artists on ‘The Flash’. They just bring it every issue. Their works perfectly matches the intensity of the story. There’s Speed Force lightning all over the pages, the red of Flash’s costume pops right off the screen and Godspeed’s costume is a cut above the rest of the speedster villains we’ve seen of late. All that is left now is for Wally to find himself a costume and this series will be complete.

    Literally no complaints.

    Verdict

‘The Flash’ #7 is another awesome issue in an outstanding run for the series. MUST READ!
