30th AUG UPDATE: Following stiff competition from Screen Gem’s ‘Don’t Breath’ ‘Suicide Squad’ has fallen in to second place at the US box office.

The film took a further $12.1M but fell short of the $26.4M made by ‘Don’t Breathe’. Ending it’s fourth weekend the total domestic box office for ‘Suicide Squad’ is now $283M.

Internationally the film had another great weekend taking $19.6M to take it’s international total to $353.7M.

Globally ‘Suicide Squad’ is now sitting at $636.7M. Box office analysts are predicting the film will leave theatres around the $703M mark which is only $100M shy of the total raised by ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’.

22nd AUG UPDATE: ‘Suicide Squad’ is now spending its third week atop the US box office chart.

The film took a further $20.7M in America to push it’s box office total to $262.2M.

Internationally the film fell in to second place as Universal’s ‘The Secret Life of Pets’ continued its roll out and returned to the top of the chart. ‘Suicide Squad’ fell to second place taking a further $38M.

It’s international gross now sits at $310.4M. It’s worldwide gross is $572.7M meaning it should cross the $600M mark this week.

Opening in Germany the film took an impressive $6.8M, 13% higher than the opening of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’.

With a total gross of $36.1M the UK still leads offshore markets, followed by Brazil, Mexico ($23.6M), Russia ($22.6M), Australia ($21.1M), France ($15.1M), Korea ($14.2M), Spain ($9.7M), Taiwan ($8.4M) and Italy ($7.4M).

The film is still to open in Japan on September 10th.

17th AUG UPDATE: the continuing saga of ‘Suicide Squad’ at the box office has been quiet. The film very quietly held the top spot in the US on Monday ($5.0M) and Tuesday ($6.2M). Yesterday it earned $4.1M. Both days the film topped the weekday grosses of ‘Batman v Superman’ and ‘Captain America: Civil War’. It has now slipped behind the weekday grosses of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ but maintains an overall lead of over $45M on that films gross.

It’s US gross is now reported at $238M. Internationally the film is still playing strongly and on it’s 13th day of release has crossed $509M globally! It’s international gross is currently $271M.

14th AUG UPDATE:  globally ‘Suicide Squad’ continues to play on 15,600 screens across 62 territories. Over the weekend the film saw a 56% decline in gross, marginally better than the 66% decrease of ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’.

Over the weekend grossed another $58.7M in international markets. It’s international gross now sits at $242.5M.

The film remains number one at the UK box office having taken a further $5.5M. It’s total UK gross is now $29M. It also remains number one is Australia where a $4.4M weekend has taken it’s total gross to $17.5M.

Strong performances continue in Brazil ($22.9M), Mexico ($19.5M) and Russia where it has fully outgrossed ‘Batman v Superman’ with a total $20M.

This weekend saw ‘Suicide Squad’ open in Argentina where it too $2.5M. This topped ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ and ‘Deadpool’. In Italy it’s opening day was 318% over ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ and 23% over ‘Batman v Superman’. It’s weekend gross there was $2.2M.

The film is yet to open in Germany and Japan.

Domestically the film saw a 65% decline in ticket sales for a $43.7M second weekend. The decline is lower than that ‘Batman v Superman’ but still high for a comic book movie. On the flip side $43.7M is a new record for a second weekend in August,

Globally the film has now made $465.4M.

13th AUG UPDATE: more international numbers have been released which show that the film continues to play strong in the international market.

Pulling in $11.7M on Wednesday and $11.4M on Thursday the film is now sitting at around $188.1M internationally and will easily cros $200M this weekend.

Globally the film is sitting at £370.6M and will cross $400M by Monday.

12th AUG UPDATE: Wednesday numbers for the US box office have been released. The film made a further $9.8M on Wednesday, beating the Wednesday records of ‘Batman v Superman’, ‘Civil War’, ‘Deadpool’ and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’.

Weekend estimates expect the film to make a further $51-$54M this weekend. That would be an approximate 60-61% drop from it’s opening weekend.

11th AUG UPDATE: Some more international numbers were released overnight showing that the film made $15.7M on Monday and $15.3M  on Tuesday. This takes the international gross to around $165M. Worldwide the film is now sitting at a gross of $326.1M!

10th AUG UPDATE: ‘Suicide Squad’ is off to an awesome start at the US box office this week having broken the record for the highest grossing Monday and Tuesday in August.

On Monday the film took a reported $13.1M before rising a further 9% for a gross of $14.2M on Tuesday.

The best news? That $14.2M Tuesday is higher than the best Tuesday gross for ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ ($12.7M), ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ ($13.1M) and ‘Captain America: Civil War’ ($13.76M).

The films US gross is now sitting at $161M.

08th AUG UPDATE: the weekend actuals have been released with ‘Suicide Squad’ adjusting it’s US box office takings down to $133.6M. That drops the film to the fourth biggest opening of the year but still breaks the record for an August opening weekend.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE: Warner Bros. have several reasons to celebrate today as ‘Suicide Squad’ made a massive dent in the weekend box office.

Starting with America the film took an estimated $135.1M. Going in to the weekend the studio estimated $125-$130M so expectations have been exceeded. The film expectedly fell short of the $166M opening weekend of previous DCEU entry ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’.

$135M takes the record for the biggest August opening weekend. Beating the previous record of $94.3M set by ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’. Combined Thursday previews and Firday gross also get a record for the highest grossing day in August with $65.3M. The film saw a drop of 41% in ticket sales from Friday (incl. previews) to Saturday in line with ‘The Dark Knight Rises’. $11M of the takings were from IMAX screenings.

Internationally ‘Suicide Squad’  opened on 17,670 across the globe, the all-time record for biggest August opening overseas. The international gross ended the weekend on $132M taking the global tally to $267.1M.

Here are some of the key highlights from international markets:

    • The film took $13.9M in the UK topping the opening weekends of both ‘Deadpool’ and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’.
    • DC Comics had it’s best ever opening in Spain with $3.5M topping ‘Batman v Superman’.
    • In Russia the film opened to $11.3M topping predecessor ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ as well as Marvel’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ and even topping ‘Captain America: Civil War’.
    • Korea opened with $10.4M on par with ‘Batman v Superman’.
    • Australia brought $10.6M for the highest August opening ever once again topping both ‘Batman v Superman’ and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’.
    • Also opening on $10.4M was Mexico. Despite one major distributor withdrawing the film from cinemas it was the top August opening weekend ever and the 2nd best ever for WB.
    • France debuted to $7.6M once again topping ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’.
