Over the weekend the schedule for this years San Diego Comic Con was released. As expected Warner Bros. Pictures once again takes over the hallowed Hall H on Saturday with a two-hour presentation of its upcoming film slate.
What was uncertain until now was exactly which films the company should be showcasing. Now we know that ‘Suicide Squad’, ‘The Lego Batman Movie’, ‘King Arthur: Legend of the Sword’, ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ and ‘Kong: Skull Island’ will make up much of that presentation.
Perhaps the most exciting news (beyond ‘The Lego Batman Movie’ which was a surprise) is that ‘Wonder Woman’ will have a serious presence on the panel. Stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine and Connie Nielsen and director Patty Jenkins will all be present hopefully to present the first teaser trailer for the film.
In the press release to announce the panel Warner has included the first synopsis for the film:
“Wonder Woman” hits movie theaters around the world next summer when Gal Gadot returns as the title character in the epic action adventure from director Patty Jenkins. Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.
Interestingly the press release is missing a name that has been attached to the film for some time. Writer Jason Fuchs appears to have been replaced by DC Comics Chief Geoff Johns and TV writer Allan Heinberg. Both Heinberg and Johns have worked on ‘Wonder Woman’ comics.
Here is the excerpt from the press release in regards to the cast and creative team behind the film:
Joining Gadot in the international cast are Chris Pine, Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright, David Thewlis, Danny Huston, Elena Anaya, Ewen Bremner and Saïd Taghmaoui. Jenkins directs the film from a screenplay by Allan Heinberg and Geoff Johns, story by Zack Snyder & Allan Heinberg, based on characters from DC Entertainment. Wonder Woman was created by William Moulton Marston. The film is produced by Charles Roven, Zack Snyder, Deborah Snyder and Richard Suckle, with Rebecca Roven, Stephen Jones, Wesley Coller and Geoff Johns serving as executive producers. Warner Bros. Pictures presents, in association with RatPac-Dune Entertainment, an Atlas Entertainment/Cruel and Unusual production, “Wonder Woman.”
Sounds like we will be getting a true Wonder Woman origin story. How do you feel about that? Sound off in the comments.
The film is scheduled for release on June 2, 2017, and will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.
