Blade Runner Origins: Scrap Vol 2 is published by Titan Comics, written by K. Perkins and Mellow Brown, illustrated by Fernando Dagnino, coloured by Marco Lesko and lettered by Jim Campbell.

Synopsis
LAPD detective CAL MOREAUX has teamed up with an escaped experimental REPLICANT, who has been uploaded with the memories of a dead Tyrell Corporation scientist, whose suicide he was sent to investigate. Now they must run and fight a conspiracy hatched in the very heart of the Tyrell Corporation.
Review
Thanks to the recent releases from Titan Comics I have been able to get back into the Blade Runner series so it woul only be natural to revisit the Origins series with Vol 2: Scrap up first. The book tells the story of the Tyrell Corporation and their new band of Replicants, almost identical to humans and living amongst the city dwellers of downtown LA. A gritty old school detective Cal Moreaux has been assigned to the case of the apparent suicide of one of Tyrell Corporation’s brightest scientists Lydia Kine, this takes him on a journey that is full of corporate corruption which could lead him to a particular Replicant that could hold all the answers he needs. Alongside this case there is also the issue of a Rogue Replicant who is moving through the underground and reviving Replicants that have maybe been assigned to the scrap heap or laying dormant but this is no ordinary revival this is the verge of an uprising, Cal must stop it before it’s too late – but can he?
This collected story really took me deep into the LA underground and made me feel like I actually stepped into the Blade Runner world, K. Perkins and Mellow Brown come together to unite two of the best in the business to create a dystopian world that deep into the darkened streets of LA. The story of Blade Runner has always fascinated me with it’s dark style and although it is quite a heavy read in parts it is well worth giving it the time to get going as it definitely feels worth it towards the end.
Titan Comics very kindly sent me out a physical copy of the book so I was able to see up close the quality of the art work and let me tell you it most definitely needs to be seen in physical format to appreciate the artwork of the book. Fernando Dagnino gives the illustrations a deep bold effect that gives the book a dramatic feel giving the story that tense feeling. Marco Lesko uses the dark colours to highlight the dark moody nature of the book injecting a passion into the books that runs through to it’s very spine.
Verdict
As a fan of the Blade Runner world I really enjoyed reading this Origins book allowing me to see a broader insight into the dark underbelly of LA. This Blade Runner series has a strong creative team involved that can only take the series in bigger direction, the story was bold and the illustrations an artistic marvel a definite must have for any Blade Runner fan.
