Synopsis
Officer Danny Ortega was always at the top of his class at the academy-but nothing could have prepared him for what it actually takes to be a cop in Gotham City. Ortega is ready to make a dramatic choice about his future with the blue wall…until one traumatic incident on the streets of Gotham changes everything.
Review
In this issue the gritty cop series gets a little but more grittier as we follow Danny Ortega and his struggles of working a police officer in the dark corrupt world that is Gotham, it takes a certain person to work these streets and not let it swallow you up and Ortega is beginning to doubt if he actually has what it takes or even if he wants to. Commissioner Montoya gets a new best friend in the form of a dog and tries to use the dog to help her get rid of her drinking demons, but a particular walk invokes a chance meeting that catches Montoya unaware, this could be either really good for her or equally really bad for her in different ways but it’s a choice that Montoya must make for herself. In the meantime Ortega begins to dwell on his life and his treatment in the force so , which has been far from friendly, but an emotional man left alone with his thoughts can be dangerous, this fight within himself could be the biggest fight that Ortega could have come up against so far, can he fight the darkness?
The writing of this story is impeccable, John Ridley has elevated the famous Gotham lore and injected and intensely emotional story arc that will potential blow the Gotham underworld apart, no spoilers here but the ending suggests that there is alot more to come from this arc and Gotham is about to get even more darker and I can’t wait for it.
The illustrations from Stefano Raffaele highlight the darkness and pain that is written in the words on the page, a mix of darkened tones and deep colours give that intense emotion that will take your breathe away, the book is a creative masterpiece.
Verdict
A definite 5⭐️ score in fact if we had more to give I definitely would, this is some of Ridley’s finest work and I have a feeling this story has only just begun, big things are about to happen in Gotham.
