Legends of Tomorrow season 6 stars Caity Lotz, Dominic Purcell, Nick Zano, Tala Ashe, Matt Ryan, Olivia Swann, Jes Macallan, Adam Tsekhman, Shayan Sobhian, Lisseth Chavez and Raffi Barsoumian. New episodes air Sundays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.

    Synopsis

With everyone finally back together, the Legends find themselves looking to Nate to keep everything calm while in the old West on a mission to find an alien.  After trying to keep things normal, Sara reveals her secret to Ava and the team, leaving them all shocked.  Constantine looks to Gary who might have answers to his problem.  Spooner and Astra are forced to work together despite their clashing personalities which ultimately helps push them to hone their powers.  Meanwhile, Zari takes an unusual interest in Behrad’s personal life.

    Review

The Legends are finally reunited! After last week’s rescue, Sara, Gary and Rory are back on the Waverider and the team is ready to hit the ground running to track down the aliens running amok through the timeline.  This leads them to the Wild West in a town called Fist City which according to the historian hero Nate is one of the most violent and dangerous places of its time.  This quickly raises questions however when they turn up and everyone is happy, pleasant and comes with a fourth wall breaking, country singing and guitar playing narrator.  Obviously something is not right in Fist City and the Legends are keen to find out the truth.

The big hidden secret in this episode though is Sara and Ava hiding the secret from the rest of the team that she is a human/alien hybrid clone!  Spooner using her powers can sense Sara’s feelings however it’s quickly blamed on the one known alien on board Gary.
This episode we’re also given our first appearance of Diggle, although this is not Diggle but his ancestor Bass Reeves who in history is the town’s first Black Deputy however in this time he is a Wanted man and the towns current Deputy is Levi Stapleton who according to original history was a famed Outlaw.  This town raises more and more questions and the Legends split up to find out the truth.

Astra and Spooner get a big spotlight this week, they are two of the newest members of the team and both hot headed women so Nata under temp Leadership assigns them together to work on their teamwork skills.  Not the best idea from Nate (at first) but as proven later in the episode, when working together these two are a strong duo.  I’m still not sure on their permanent additions to the team (can’t quite see them being entirely useful during crossovers against Nazi’s) but it’s good to see them being given some scenes to chew on and grow.

Constantine and Gary serve as a short B plot too with John wanting to find a legendary fountain that could restore his former powers after losing them a few episodes prior.

Nate takes the spot for best scene this week though when the usually happy member of the team snaps at everyone with his struggles, after losing his version of Zari a while back he has secretly been struggling with still seeing a different version of her along with other couples on the Waverider. This eventually leads his buddy Behrad to borrow his sister’s totem and lets Nate borrow them both so he can visit his Zari for short periods of time.  A very sweet bromantic moment for the two and one I hope won’t lead Nate down an addictive route of wanting to be in the totem more than outside of it.

Sara’s secret is also not kept for long when she is shot in the head during a duel with the evil Sheriff who cheats his way to a win….or so he thought.  Yup, Sara can survive a bullet through the brain! And now the whole team can see the truth.  It’ll be interesting to see how each of them handle Sara’s new status and the effects it will eventually have on her.

For me, I enjoy seeing character development in these large ensemble shows as it can sometimes slip into underdeveloped characters falling into the background. We’re halfway through the season and with Bishop being silenced for now and more aliens hidden throughout time, let’s see what the Legends have left to contend with when it returns from a small 1 week break.

    Verdict

It wouldn’t be a Legends of Tomorrow season without involving the Wild West at least once per season.  The alien, the setting and even the guest spot of Diggles ancestor felt like small extras to what was a team mate’s confession episode which from the looks of it was very much needed!

I am an ex Royal Navy sailor who loves all things geek. I have a strong admiration of anime as well as western television shows and movies. From a young age I was into video games as well as TV shows, often spotted in front of a screen somewhere. My goal is to become a screenwriter/director one day and left the Royal Navy after 9 years to better pursue that dream of mine.
