Legends of Tomorrow season 6 stars Caity Lotz, Dominic Purcell, Nick Zano, Tala Ashe, Matt Ryan, Olivia Swann, Jes Macallan, Adam Tsekhman, Shayan Sobhian, Lisseth Chavez and Raffi Barsoumian. New episodes air Sundays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.

    Synopsis

Be careful what you wish for.  With Astra now a mortal, she finds it hard to adapt to the real world with no guidance from Constantine.  Frustrated and lonely, Astra makes a new friend who promises to help her, but her eagerness for the easy way out could have some real repercussions for those closest to her.  Meanwhile, Sara meets the person responsible for her kidnapping and tries to convince others to help her escape.

    Review

The Legends go full Disney this week so please take a seat and be my guest as we break down all the madness that only Legends are capable of delivering.

Astra is the main focus this week, a part time Legend I suppose who is trying to adapt to living back on Earth.  Things are difficult sadly as she lives in the home of John Constantine who is traveling across time with the Legends and who uses magic for everything so he has no wifi, does not pay for electricity and has barely any food or money in the house. Despite Astra’s best efforts and brutal honesty though (admitted that she has no qualifications because she was raised in hell) it seems a normal Earth life is not quite her style.

When the last season ended I was under the impression Astra was not returning to the show, while it was great to see Constantine get his closure to that storyline first introduced back in his original show I had figured she was just around for the season so to see her character expanded on with an entire episode dedicated to her was pretty great!

Her attempts to make money by selling John’s magical antiques puts her on the path of one Aleister Crowley (voiced by Doctor Who’s Matt Lucas) who John has trapped within a painting and left in his loft.
He offers to teach Astra some magic which she quickly takes up and after a heated argument with John she swaps his body with Aleister’s painting.  He teaches her more magic although all temporary transfigurations but when he suggests they make a necklace which makes her spells permanent but at the cost of a living human soul her ‘Legends’ heart begins to falter.
Things go from bad to worse when the Legends turn up after letting Rory fly off into space with the Waverider (doing his best Doctor Who impression).  Trying to protect them from Aleister she turns them all into household items and hides them away before trying to swap John and Aleister back into their original forms, she is too late however and he is able to steal the soul of her racist old neighbour and turned everything into a cartoon and Astra into a Disney Princess who sings about her problems.

Working with the real Constantine though, they are able to return everything and everyone back to normal, at the cost of Constantine’s magic.  They have now decided to Nerf John’s powers so he and Astra must now rebuild their magical skills to once again be the feared and legendary John Constantine and Astra.

The entire animated sequence was brilliant and even if they were merely voicing their animated counterparts the cast lapped up their temp item roles (Steel Cheese, Folder Ava, Flip Phone Zari). It’s another example of the brilliant out of the box thinking the writers have on this show which they can’t show on any of the other CW shows)

Across the universe we’re shown more of Sara’s living ‘Misery’ nightmare where we’re shown the source of the aliens who kidnapped her originally.  One Bishop (Played by Raffi Barsoumain), a very lively and eccentric madman. He almost seems like a Silicon Valley start-up company boss with how positive and upbeat he is despite knowing the shady stuff he is happy to do.
His plan is to restart humanity but mix in alien DNA to make us more robust (although one insane Amelia Earhart with lizard tongue makes one think to go back to the board with this idea).  With his endless Ava clones it seems Sara is facing a huge challenge to get out of this in one piece.
Despite her efforts to make another Ava go against their programming though Bishop shows he is one step ahead so Sara does what she does best which is Kill the enemy.  Bishop blindsides her though to reveal he himself is also a clone and that killing him simply boots up his clone counterpart and he carries on with his goal.

    Verdict

Once again Legends throws all it can at the wall and delivers another hilarious and shocking story.  Astra’s story was one I did not know I wanted but I am glad to have seen and Sara edges ever closer to returning as Captain of the Legends.  Where Constantine stands with the Legends remains to be seen however as he is now nerfed and is merely just another guy with some magic knowledge.

I am an ex Royal Navy sailor who loves all things geek. I have a strong admiration of anime as well as western television shows and movies. From a young age I was into video games as well as TV shows, often spotted in front of a screen somewhere. My goal is to become a screenwriter/director one day and left the Royal Navy after 9 years to better pursue that dream of mine.
