Published by Image Comics, Ordinary Gods #1 is written by Kyle Higgins, illustrated by Filipe Watanabe.

Ordinary Gods #1 will be available in print and on digital where all good comics are sold from July 7, 2021. Pre-order your digital copy from Comixology right here.

    Synopsis

For fans of THE OLD GUARD and GOD COUNTRY comes the extra-length first issue of a centuries-spanning action epic from writer KYLE HIGGINS (RADIANT BLACK) and artist FELIPE WATANABE (The Flash)!

The Luminary. The Prodigy. The Brute. The Trickster. The Innovator. Five gods from a realm beyond our own, leaders in the “War of Immortals.” At least, they were—before they were trapped, sent to a planet made into a prison, forced into an endless cycle of human death and reincarnation. Christopher is 22. He’s got two loving parents and a 12-year-old sister. He works at a paint store. He’s in therapy. He’s one of the Five. Which means, in order to save everyone he cares about, Christopher will have to reconnect with his past lives and do the unthinkable: become a god again.

    Review

When I first came across Ordinary Gods the cover and synopsis intrigued me, after the first couple of pages I knew I was in for a decent read.

Writer Higgins takes us on a time jumping journey building an indepth story of legandary heroes and the rise of a early twenties man, Christopher who is struggling his way through life.

The story builds through the pages as you see Christopher attempting to go about his normal daily life with his parents and sister in what seems like a normal run of the mill family life. But life just isn’t giving Christopher the winning deck to play with as he struggles through his day job and puts himself through therapy unknowing how important he is to life as we know it.

Higgins has brought to the book a brilliant page turning story with twists that you will never see coming and will leave you unable to put it down, written in a way that certainly captures your mind and makes you think more about the story you are reading. The illustrations are phenomenal Watanabe does an amazing job bringing the words to life, the artistic style is different to what I’ve previously seen in definitely a good way, with a realistic tone and dark colours making a very dramatic vision.

    Review

I am intrigued to see where Higgins is going to take this story arc, it didn’t leave me begging for more but it has certainly intrigued me to a point that I need to see #2 to make sense of it all.
