According to a report by Illuminerdi, it looks as though Obi-Wan Kenobi will have some company while he enjoys his time on Tatooine. The report suggests that there are four new roles waiting to join the Star Wars universe, with one acting as a co-lead alongside the Jedi Knight.
Here is a rundown of the roles that are being teased:
- Riley (aka Eve)- Female (20-25) CO-LEAD – A female BIPOC whose character details are being kept a secret
- Tia- Female (30s) supporting- BIPOC
- Harold- Male (Late 20s-30s) supporting- A quirky, comedic male
- Bella- Female (40s) supporting- Latinx
What is important to note here is that these names are likely just placeholders. The series is still in the early stages of production so these names will be used to keep things under wraps. It is also likely that they are still working on these characters so their true names are currently unknown.
Regardless of their names, it looks as though Disney are looking to implement a pretty diverse cast.
So, according to the report, which has gradually circulated online, there are three actresses that supposedly in the run for the co-lead role of “Riley”.
Here are the three contenders:
- Naomi Scott– An instantly recognizable actress who has been a Power Ranger and a Disney Princess. Considering her profile, she would make a fantastic edition to the rather small cast.
- Thuso Mbedu– She was nominated for an International Emmy Award for her role in Is’thunzi. She is also set to star in Amazon’s The Underground Railroad.
- Anula Navlekar– Anula is quite unknown in the acting world. According to the report, she graduated from the Yale School of Drama which is no small feat.
Who is “Riley”? That’s the big question. A simple resident? A survivor of Order 66? or perhaps a Mandalorian warrior- considering his history on Mandalore it isn’t a stretch.
It is believed that the Obi-Wan series will premiere on Disney+ sometime in 2022. Although, that hasn’t been confirmed as of yet.
