Jon Favreau has some exciting news for fans of Disney+ series The Mandalorian. Speaking with Variety Favreau confirmed that Disney and Lucasfilm plan to have cameras rolling on the third season before the end of 2020.
Discussing the current status of the show, Favreau said that production is “on schedule…[to begin filming] before the end of the year.”
“We’re operating under the assumption that we’ll be able to go forward,” he added. “We’re in very small situations and oftentimes we have a lot of characters in masks. And we also have a lot of digital work that augments things. So we’re a show that’s probably well-equipped to be flexible based on the protocols that are emerging surrounding work restarting.”
Also asked about the potential to make a movie featuring the titular Mandalorian, Favreau admitted he was less in a rush to bring his creation to the big screen.
“But we’re definitely open to it,” said Faveau. “And excited to see where the story leads us and have that flexibility — because there’s no rulebook now. Technology is always offering new opportunities to tell stories in a fresh way. It’s a very exciting time to be doing this and I feel very grateful that we’re able to be able to work remotely, because of the nature of the technology that we’re dealing with. So we’re continuing to try to move forward and keep the ball rolling, even though it’s been a challenging time for everyone.”
The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal, with guest stars Gina Carano, Carl Weathers and Giancarlo Esposito. Directors for the new season include Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Bryce Dallas Howard, Rick Famuyiwa, Carl Weathers, Peyton Reed and Robert Rodriguez. Showrunner Jon Favreau serves as executive producer along with Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy and Colin Wilson, with Karen Gilchrist serving as co-executive producer.
The new season premieres Friday, 30th October, streaming only on Disney+.
