Paramount shuts down rumours that STAR TREK film franchise is finished

Star Trek has been embedded in popular culture for over 50 years, and with a historical franchise as popular as this, it is not hard to believe that some of the adaptations and different iterations of this universe may not be as successful as Paramount hopes.

According to Screen Rant, Paramount have confirmed that the future of the Star Trek franchise is still intact; for now. There have been rumours circulating for a while that the untitled Star Trek 4 was cancelled and that we would see no more films taking place after Star Trek Beyond (2016). This is probably because Star Trek Beyond under-performed at the box office, not able to reach the same heights that its predecessors, Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) did.

To the relief of Trekkies, Paramount have shut down the rumours that the film franchise has ended. We don’t know for certain if we will officially see Star Trek 4, especially with a franchise that isn’t attracting as many cinema-goers as it used to, as well as COVID19 currently making filmmaking and theatre experiences near impossible for the next few months.

We are seeing the television series’ succeed rapidly, with Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Picard and Star Trek: Lower Decks, as has always been a trend when it comes to this franchise, and yet the movies (whether they were part of the same series or original ideas) have been circulating in the unknown.

Star Trek may be destined to remain on the small screen, it is where it started and no doubt it will remain so, boldly going where they have always gone before.
