    Synopsis

The secrets of the DC Universe are hacked! Sanctuary wasn’t supposed to keep records, but now that the A.I. is compromised, superhero secrets are leaking all over the ’Net. Booster and Harley set aside their differences to focus on who they believe is the real killer (assuming one of them isn’t lying, that is). Meanwhile, Batman and the Flash continue to investigate the mysterious murderer. The answer can be found in Sanctuary…but is it safe to go digging in the crime scene?

    Review

There’s an interesting race to finish line building in Heroes in Crisis. As we remain entirely in the dark as to who committed the atrocities at Sanctuary us, as readers, are left watching events unfold

This issue balances out three major storylines. Booster Gold and Blue Bettle’s investigation, the rival investigation of Harley and Batgirl but also Superman leading the Trinity to make a statement to the press.

The two rival investigations in to the events at Sanctuary take up the build of the issue. Booster seems incredibly nonchalant about the whole thing. In a typically Booster Gold manner he seems to feels like he’ll be exonerated of all crimes if he can prove he isn’t cognisent of them.

His carefree attitude comes across as near on excitement. Tom King writes the character in a way which is really making me feel like he needs a good slap. It’s a sign of strong writing that I feel so strongly about his attitude. At this stage I honestly want him to be proven the culprit so I can see him get some comeuppance.

Harley on the other hand, now that’s another story. She seems to be in the middle of a much bigger arc in this issue. Pairing her with Batgirl makes for an interesting story. She seems to be being portrayed as the anti-hero of the piece. Her utter conviction that Booster, or someone else, is to blame other than herself has me worried she will ultimately have committed the murders.

Seeing the two stories interject in the close panels has me very excited for issue 6 next month.

Secondary to all the investigatory action are the events of the Trinity press conference. It gives the issue chance to step back from the action for a moment and see the impact on Clark. The scenes of him agonising over writing his speech feel raw and emotional.

His hesitance to commit to the words and also his dialogue with Lois feel so natural. The facade of Kal-El of Krypton is gone and this is a man at one of the lowest points in his life.

The press conference itself is also telling of the current Trinity dynamic. With Bruce nowhere to be found it’s up to Diana to support Clark. Though we’ve seen very little by way of conflict between the two it still feels as though it is boiling under the surface.

    Verdict

Heroes In Crisis fifth issue is another well written story. It pushes the series towards its inevitable climax but is ultimately slower paced than previous issues.

Character remain its central focus and they are all impeccably presented here. Likewise the artwork remains stunning from start to finish.

    7/10
