Marvel Studios just took one big step closer to forming its team of mutants. Deadline has tonight exclusively revealed that Ready or Not actor Samara Weaving has signed on for a key role in director Jake Schreier’s (Thunderbolts*) upcoming X-Men.
As revealed by the trade, Weaving has officially signed on as the MCU’s Emma Frost making her the first key piece announced for the film. Presumably Weaving will be joined by a certain actor who is revealed to be playing a key part of Charles Xavier’s team in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
In the comics Frost is a telepathic mutant who first appeared in the 1980s and has evolved over the years. The character often shifts between supervillain and key team member of the X-Men. On the film side, she was most recently played by January Jones in X-Men: First Class.
Weaving is said to have beaten out a final shortlist of actors during a set of auditions which took place shortly after the July 4th weekend. Rumours also point to the casting of Rogue and Beast as being close to completion.
