The Mummy franchise we grew up with is officially returning to cinemas. Universal Pictures has announced that a fourth film in the franchise, bringing original stars Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz back together, will release on May 19, 2028.
It was first revealed back in November that Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, aka Radio Silence (Scream 5, Abigail), will direct the film off a screenplay by David Coggeshall (The Family Plan, Orphan: First Kill). Now both Academy Award-winners, Fraser starred in each of the first three films in the franchise – Mummy, Mummy Returns and 2008’s The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor whilst Weisz appeared in the first two.
Story details for the new film are being kept under wraps for now. Further casting has yet to be announced.
