Poison Ivy 2025 Annual #1 is written by G. Willow Wilson and published by DC Comics. Artwork is by Mark Buckingham and Jessica Fong.

Poison Ivy 2025 Annual #1 is available today in comic book stores and on digital platforms where all good comics are sold. Grab your physical copy from Forbidden Planet or digitally from Amazon Comixology UK.

    Synopsis

A tale of times past! No matter what Pamela Isley does, mercy or slaughter, humanity seems dead set on betraying the Earth. Yet Ivy still refuses to let go of her own humanity in service of that which she claims to love. Hoping to discover a way forward, Poison Ivy sets out to find the living repository of all secrets—the Tree of Knowledge. But like those who have tasted the tree’s fruit before her, Ivy learns far more than she bargained for.

    Review

Poison Ivy goes on a quest for knowledge, but don’t expect your usual superhero beat-’em-up — this is philosophical, mystical, and very much rooted in the green she loves… with a few twists that might make you raise an eyebrow. This isn’t about punching bad guys; it’s Ivy grappling with humanity, morality, and her own place in the natural world.

Her target? The Tree of Knowledge — apparently the only living thing that can answer why humans keep trashing the planet and why the Earth just sits there taking it. The journey takes her back in time to a simpler, kinder era, showing a world where humans didn’t suck so much — at least according to the tree. Through Ivy’s eyes, the contrast makes today’s chaos feel even more depressing.

Mark Buckingham’s artwork leans into an old-school, almost Disney-esque, religious parable style. The visuals are carefully curated — a blend of kingdoms, forbidden love, and mystical settings — giving the issue a conceptual, storybook-like aesthetic. While not flashy or modern, the art reinforces the mythic, timeless feel of the narrative.

The themes are heavy: morality, environmental stewardship, humanity’s cyclical screw-ups. The atmosphere is meditative and thoughtful, but here’s the kicker: the writing drags, and the pacing can be a slog. Some plot points are so predictable you’ll be shouting, “Yeah, we see where this is going!” Ivy ends up learning a lesson we already know, making big chunks feel… almost pointless. Conceptually ambitious? Yes. Smooth and gripping to read? Not really.

    Verdict

Poison Ivy 2025 Annual #1 is a visually stunning, conceptually ambitious fable about morality, humanity, and the green she loves. While the pacing and narrative may feel slow and predictable at times, the issue’s art, themes, and Ivy’s philosophical journey make it a worthwhile, meditative read for fans of character-driven, environmentally conscious storytelling.
