Deadpool and Wolverine finally have their own film together and what a treat it is. Check out Marvel Studios‘  Deadpool & Wolverine which is in cinemas right now, so what are you waiting for?

    Synopsis

Deadpool’s peaceful existence comes crashing down when the Time Variance Authority recruits him to help safeguard the multiverse. He soon unites with his would-be pal, Wolverine, to complete the mission and save his world from an existential threat.

    Review

It’s no secret that the most recent Marvel movies haven’t exactly sparked the worldwide reaction they typically tend to gain. Hey, even Deadpool acknowledges it. But with the arrival of Deadpool & Wolverine, hope began to spread like wildfire… This could be the film that revitalises the MCU and imbues it with a well-needed dose of energy that gets rid of this gnawing fatigue. Look at the box office, look at the countless NSYNC Tik Toks… Deadpool & Wolverine didn’t just put the MCU back on the map, it honored the superhero genre as a whole. Rather than being self-absorbed, this movie celebrates the films and stories that came before, and that’s one of its major strengths. Deadpool & Wolverine is a delightfully bloodthirsty celebration that’ll stike a chord in any person who grew up watching the original Fox superhero movies.

It’s just an absolute joy from start to finish. The only negative thing that can be said, which realistically isn’t the film’s fault, is that it was too heavily marketed. The movie was already sold to us as soon as Hugh Jackman signed on as Wolverine. It was that simple and easy. But then they started to tease certain cameos and surprises, even spoiling one in the final trailer. While there are so many great surprises in store, they didn’t have to reveal any. To a degree, the trailers dampened one of the more tender moments of the movie because we saw it coming. It didn’t really dimish the viewing experience, but it’s definitely important to highlight this sudden need to spoil things purely for clicks and views, especially for a film like Deadpool & Wolverine where most of us had already mentally booked a ticket when the movie was first announced.

    Anyway, onto the great stuff.

Deadpool & Wolverine takes everything that worked in the previous two movies and injects them with adrenaline. The jokes land better and are way more ambitious, the violence and gore is so much more extreme and playful. Plus, the inclusion of Wolverine allowed the film to really push the boundaries. All of the fight scenes are so incredibly inventive and fun. Take the opening scene for example… It’s just pure gold. Pure, gory and completely unapologetic gold. As someone who utterly adores that classic superhero action, Deadpool & Wolverine really utilises the best of both characters and when they come together it’s harmonious. Hugh Jackman was not wasted at all, and every moment on screen is a brutal reminder as to why Hugh Jackman will forever be Wolverine.

While there is a lot of fun to be had in Deadpool & Wolverine, with jokes poking fun at Disney, the state of the MCU and even Jackman himself, the film doesn’t get completely lost in that realm. Keeping in line with the previous movies, this third installment actually has some heartwarming moments that are delivered beautifully. Jackman’s Wolverine feels completely fresh and layered, so it’s like meeting an entirely new character. He’s weighed down by this grief, and they fully lean into it. His performance is incredible, and I think our connection to Hugh Jackman as Logan helped intensify these emotional beats.

For Deadpool, the stakes are astronomical on an emotional level and a physical level, and we definitely see him transition more into a hero in this third movie. However, while the entire universe is at risk the stakes don’t feel quite so visceral because the limelight is fixated on Deadpool, Wolverine, and the cameos- Cameos that are executed wonderfully. That’s not to say that you don’t feel the urgency, but you almost have to be reminded of what’s going on. Stripping it down to its most basic form, Deadpool & Wolverine is an incredibly simple movie, but it works so very well because of everything that surrounds the story.

Ordinarily, this would probably drag a movie down, but for Deadpool & Wolverine it actually helps lift it up. There is doom and gloom around the corner, but it feels very minor because it is not the primary goal. Audiences begged for a Deadpool and Wolverine team up… And we got it tenfold.

    Verdict

Deadpool & Wolverine is a deliciously gory and warming celebration of the superhero genre. Negating the months of growing fatigue, the return of both Wade and Logan proved to be the spark that we all needed. Fun, inventive, surprising and hilariously ambitious, this third movie truly makes you want to yell “LFG.”

    ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Directed by Shawn Levy, Deadpool & Wolverine is headlined by Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. Joining them are Morena Baccarin, Karan Soni, Leslie Uggams, Rob Delaney, Stefan Kapičić, Brianna Hildebrand, Shioli Kutsuna, Emma Corrin and Matthew Macfadyen.

Deadpool & Wolverine is in cinemas right now. What did you think? Make sure you let us know in the comments.
