EW has confirmed that the Game of Thrones prequel series – tentatively titled The Long Night – has entered production.
The series is shooting in Northern Ireland, which served as the production of hub for GoT during its entire run. No news yet on whether the series will visit any of the other regular locations used by the original show.
A teaser image, released by EW (above), shows a mysterious figure on horseback in what appears to be the far North of Westeros. Are we set to explore of the world beyond the wall?
The series comes from showrunner Jane Goldman (X-Men: First Class) along with author George R.R. Martin and director S.J. Clarkson (Jessica Jones). The story is set thousands of years (roughly 5,000, according to Martin) before the events in GoT.
The series is set to star Naomi Watts (The Ring) in the lead role with Naomi Ackie, Denise Gough, Miranda Richardson, Josh Whitehouse, Jamie Campbell Bower, Sheila Atim, Ivanno Jeremiah, Alex Sharp and Toby Regbo.
