VENOM devours the competition for $111M Chinese opening


Following that huge opening dayVenom has had a great weekend at the Chinese box office. The movie has taken an estimate $111M over the course of the weekend. That’s the second biggest opening for a superhero movie in the territory.

The Chinese opening record for a superhero movie is of course held by Avengers: Infinity War. That movie took $191M in its opening weekend earlier this year. Venom also becomes the fifth-highest opening for a non-Chinese movie.

Over in North America the movie took a further $4.9M over the weekend. That brings its domestic total to around $206.2M. Worldwide Venom has now jumped up to 7th on the list of highest grossing movies of 2018 with $673.5M, knocking Ant-Man and The Wasp in to 8th place.

Venom stars Tom Hardy in the lead role. Supporting cast includes Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Scott Haze, Reid Scott and Woody Harrelson. The film is directed by Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) from a script by Scott Rosenberg & Jeff Pinkner. Executive producers are David Householter, the legendary Stan Lee and Kelly Marcel. Venom is in cinemas worldwide now!
