DC Films Peter Safran is once again on the road talking with press. This time he’s out and about on the press tour for Shazam! but he’s still found time to discuss more of the future of DC on film.
In a recent interview with JoBlo the producer was asked about James Gunn’s work on The Suicide Squad and how the announcement he is returning to the MCU might impact on that movie.
When asked if Gunn’s work on Guardians Vol. 3 would push his work with DC Films into a shorter timescale Safran stated “No, it was all handled incredibly elegantly and everybody knows on both sides that Suicide Squad is the priority today and he’ll finish that movie and then everybody knows that his next film will be Guardians. It’s the best of all possible both worlds, I think, for fans and for James Gunn himself.“
Safran was also asked about the studios choice to refer to the movie as The Suicide Squad and not Suicide Squad 2. We’ve heard plenty of rumours raining from “soft reboot” all the way up to “total reboot” so which does Safran think it is?
“First of all, we don’t call it Suicide Squad 2 ‘cause it’s a total reboot,” he says “so it’s The Suicide Squad and I think people should be extremely excited about it. It’s everything you would hope from a James Gunn script and I think that says a lot and that promises a lot and I know that we will deliver a lot.”
The Suicide Squad (aka Suicide Squad 2)is aiming for an August 6, 2020 release date.
