If, like me, you’re just waking up then you missed a fair amount of news on The Batman overnight.
Variety exclusively reported overnight that Remember Me actor Robert Pattinson has been cast as the lead in the Matt Reeves directed movie. According to the report Pattinson signed on despite an unfinished script which Reeves continues to polish as the movie gears up to enter pre-production.
At 32 years-old Pattinson could be the youngest actor to take on the role of Batman.
But there’s a twist in the tale. No sooner had Variety published their exclusive story when other trades began to debunk the news. Deadline was first to publish their version of events, claiming that Dark Phoenix actor Nicholas Hoult is also in the running to play The Dark Knight.
This was followed by THR who also threw Armie Hammer and Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s names into the mix.
For now we wait for Warner Bros. to formally announce the casting… The Batman is due for release on June 25, 2021.
