As we’ve put together video playlists for ‘Gotham‘ and ‘Assault on Arkham‘ we thought in the run up to the UK release of the new ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles‘ movie in October – yes we’re two months behind the US – that we’d start collecting videos for that too!
Premiering on September 22nd on Fox ‘Gotham‘ is one of the most talked about and most buzzed pilots of the 2014/15 season. The show had a big presence at SDCC this year with the city skyline forming the backdrop to a 130 foot long (and 30 foot high!) zip line between the convention centre and the Hilton hotel as well as freebies given away at the DC stand and a screening of the pilot as part of the Warner TV panel on the Saturday night with appearances from the cast at all of the above.
Of the big three pilots for DC this year, the others being ‘The Flash‘ and ‘Constantine‘, ‘Gotham‘ is the only one not to have leaked online although the writers over at Bleeding Cool have managed to see a copy (you can checkout their thoughts here) and they have a lot of good things to say about it.
As you know we’re big fans of Batman here at GYCO so we’re going to be following this show closely and with that in mind here’s a little roundup of the latest goings on:
– Deadline has just broken the news that ‘Dexter‘ alum David Zayas has been cast as Salvator Maroni. Maroni is most famous for scarring the face of Harvey Dent giving birth to the Two-Face character, here expect to see him vying against rival mob boss Falconi (John Doman) for territory in Gotham.
– Fans in the queue for the ‘Gotham‘ zip line were handed copies of the ‘Gotham Chronicle‘ newspaper featuring the headline ‘WAYNES SHOT DEAD IN ALLEY’ but an advert on the back page directs readers to gothamchronicle.com a neatly designed tumblr blog with media from the show.
– Fox has launched a contest – sadly only for US residents – looking for fan made posters and trailers for the show. Details of the contest can be found here. As part of the contest Fox have released a huge amount of promotional materials to help fans create their artwork which you can see in the gallery at the top of the page.
– Finally the ‘Gotham‘ YouTube page has pulled together lots of clips, trailers, interviews and footage from SDCC to make the below playlist so sit back and check it out.
As part of our trip to San Diego Comic Con 2014 we were lucky enough to get seats to the Conversations for a Cause Q&A session with Stephen Amell from ‘Arrow’ on Sunday 27th July. Checkout our photos at the link above!
After a slightly shambolic attempt to get all the attendees in to the room for 0900 on a Sunday morning Stephen eventually came on stage along with host Zachary Levi to spend roughly 45mins taking (sometimes awkward) questions from the audience on everything from his stunt training to what it was like working on the HBO series ‘Hung‘.
He gave away a few accidental spoilers about season 2 of ‘Arrow‘ so if you haven’t finished it then beware. Otherwise checkout the panel in full below:
On a hot sunny afternoon and on my birthday no-less, we managed to walk straight in to hall 6BCF at San Diego Comic Con and enjoy the ‘Cartoon Voices’ panel followed by ‘Marvel’s Cup O’ Joe’ and the ‘Batman 75’ panel. After several hours of sitting came a special pilot presentation for new NBC show ‘Constantine’ based on the DC Comics title of the same name along with various other titles on the dark arts side of the DC Universe.
Up first was a rep from Warner Bros. TV who introduced the show and kindly asked that we all take as many pictures and videos of the panel as we could and share them on social media to get the buzz going about the show and without further hesitation we spent roughly 50mins watching a genuinely exciting pilot from part of the DC world with which I am not overly familiar.
You can checkout our review of the pilot itself here.
After the screening was over out came TV Guide’s Michael Schneider to moderate a short panel featuring several key players from the world of ‘Constantine’
David S. Goyer – writer and producer
Daniel Cerone – producer
Matt Ryan – the titular ‘Constantine’
Harold Perrineau – Manny
Angelica Celaya – joining the cast later in the season as Zed
Charles Halford – Cas
The cast spent roughly fifteen minutes talking about the genesis of the show, the casting process, the writing process but also a lot about where they hope to take the show in the future. Some time was spent discussing the casting of ‘Constantine’ himself with David S. Goyer and Daniel Cerone proclaiming that after reading hundreds of actors for the part Matt walked in and simply was Constantine.
After discussing the disappointed with the character of Liv and her departure from the series talk turned to Angelica Celaya and the character of Zed who will be introduced further down the line. Angelica had just completed her first night of shooting at 4am that day and jumped straight on a flight to San Diego to be at the panel. The panel shared an interested anecdote about when the producers decided to perform a chemistry test on Ryan and Celaya and how within seconds she had backed him in to a corner and it was clear the two would work well together on screen.
Each of the cast shared some thoughts on their particular character with Perrineau talking a length about his excitement at joining the series as a new character written specifically for the TV world and how he felt he wanted to take that opportunity to help expand the universe of ‘Constantine’.
There was talk of future characters who may appear on the show stemming from the collective gasp the audience gave at the appearance of Doctor Fate’s helmet during a scene in the pilot. Goyer explained that DC had given full rights to the dark arts characters from within the DC Universe meaning there was nothing to stop them from bringing together the full ‘Justice League: Dark’ team at some point in the future. Goyer did however make it very clear that guest characters/heroes would need to be organic to the story and not shoehorned in for the sake of trying to entice viewers, clearly taking notes from the ‘Arrow’ writers on how best to develop a cast of secondary heroes to help progress the story.
Finishing the panel the attendees thanked the crowd for attending and hoped we would continue to watch the show once it premieres on screens in the US on 24th October.
San Diego Comic Con has once again come to an end for another year but to keep you going whilst we all wait for news about the inevitable 2015 pre-sale coming in August here’s our gallery of photos we took whilst there on Friday and Saturday. Enjoy!
Stephen Amell and Grant Gustin have little to celebrate this week, apart from a massively successful series entering it’s third season and one of the most buzzed pilots of 2014/15, as DC guru Geoff Johns has gone on record as saying that DC/Warner Bros will categorically NOT be merging their film and tv universes.
The bottom line? Right now we won’t see Gustin and Amell playing their hero alter-egos on the big screen in 2015’s ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ or it’s follow up ‘Justice League’ movie.
We know we’re a little slow on the uptake in posting this one but here’s some awesome footage of the Batmobile in action from the upcoming ‘Arkham Knight’ game. The threequel is set to be released in Q1 of 2015 on next-gen consoles only. Hopefully you, like us, are currently saving up for your Xbox One and/or PS4.
The footage shows off the Batmobile in both battle mode and standard driving mode and it looks as though it is pretty badass in bad ass in both settings.
Lego has unveiled what will likely be one of the hottest toys at this years SDCC… a lego ‘The Dark Knight’ style tumbler. The set won’t be released until later in the year but is reported to be on display to whet the appetites of con-goers.
The model is reportedly features “an armored exterior, adjustable wings, a detailed interior (with a console screen that reads ‘INTIMIDATE’) and oversized rubber-tread tires,” and clocks in at 15-inches-long. Included within the Tumbler set are action figures from “The Dark Knight,” including a Joker and of course Batman himself.
The Tumbler will be on display at Comic Con through July 27, but won’t go on sale until September so lots of time for you to save up the $199 it’ll cost to purchase the set… oh and as it’s just under 2000 pieces you may want to take some time off work to put it together.
Big Batman news coming out of San Diego right now as the ‘Batman 75: Legends of the Dark Knight’ panel has been announced take place on Thursday July 24 at 3:30pm at San Diego Comic Con with guests including Jim Lee, Frank Miller, Grant Morrison, Denny O’Neil, Neal Adams, current series writer Scott Snyder and artist Greg Capullo, and DC Entertainment Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns.
Next up the costumes worn by Christian Bale, Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer and even George Clooney will be on display at the Warner Bros. booth on the SDCC exhibition floor.
In addition to the ‘Batman ‘66’ and ‘Batman 75’ panels taking place there will also be a screening ‘Batman: Assault on Arkham’ the next film to come from the DC Animated Universe on Friday 25th July in ballroom 20.
Lastly Warner Bros. Interactive will be exhibiting not one but TWO Batman games at this years convention with special exhibits for both ‘Arkham Knight’ and ‘Lego Batman 3’ taking place throughout the con.
