The high-octane thrill ride Speed Racer is returning for a 4K re-release this May on 4K UHD Blu-ray, featuring both a brand new SteelBook and Collector’s Edition. This new high dynamic range (HDR) release will hit stores across the UK on May 18, 2026 from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.
Directed by The Wachowskis, known for their genre-defining Matrix trilogy, this newly remastered film is packed with new bonus content. The release also includes the filmmakers reflecting on the movie’s production and its lasting legacy as a pioneer of live-action anime adaptations.
Based on the classic anime series created by Tatsuo Yoshida, this live-action adaptation stars Emile Hirsch, Christina Ricci, John Goodman, Matthew Fox, and Academy Award winner Susan Sarandon.
Born to race cars, Speed Racer (Emile Hirsch) fearlessly hurtles down the track, careening around, over, and through the competition in his thundering Mach 5. But when Speed turns down a lucrative offer from Royalton Industries, he not only infuriates the company’s maniacal owner (Roger Allam) but uncovers a terrible secret: some of the biggest races are being fixed by a handful of ruthless moguls.
The only way for Speed to save his family’s business and the sport he loves is to beat Royalton at his own game. With the support of his family and his loyal girlfriend, Trixie (Christina Ricci), Speed teams up with his one-time rival—the mysterious Racer X (Matthew Fox)—to win the race that took his brother Rex’s life: the death-defying, cross-country rally known as The Crucible.
