Amazon’s Comixology Originals has shared a new look at new 5-issue series Exorcism Island from the creative team behind acclaimed crime comic Mugshots. Writer Jordan Thomas and artist Chris Matthews have been friends since the age of eleven and on October 21 they will launch bombastic, multi-layered and ambitious globe-spanning series.
“Exorcism Island takes the tradition of the best demonic possession stories and cranks it up several notches with ever-escalating terror and tense cliffhangers,” says Jordan Thomas, the acclaimed writer of The Man From Maybe and Skin Police. “This is a story that is both horrifying and highly entertaining. And Chris brings it all together with his unique and visually gripping graphic art style and color choices.”
Following a terrifying confrontation with a possessed woman, Father Gigi Amato finds himself sent to a remote Caribbean Island run by the Vatican to join a group of priests tasked with looking after the most troubled, long-term, demonic possession cases. The group of psychologically and emotionally bruised priests bicker and bond in their attempt to keep the madness of the island under control, but dark forces are working against them from all sides as evil digs its nails into their spiritually poisoned, isolated home.
“The story is so rich with terrifying and unsettling imagery it was great fun getting to bring it all to life and add something to the world of horror and possession stories,” said artist Chris Matthews.
Jordan Thomas hails from the South of England but is currently living in Valencia, Spain. His first published comics work was the 1920s post-war, farm-based horror series Frank At Home On The Farm. Since then, he has written a post-apocalyptic western The Man From Maybe and the clone hunting sci-fi series Skin Police for Oni Press, the alien world crime story Weird Work at Image Comics and the UK crime epic Mugshots at Mad Cave Studios, as well as horror shorts for EC Comics, XINO and Hello Darkness and the classic science fiction hero Flash Gordon.
Chris Matthews is originally from the south coast of England but currently lives in Berlin, Germany. Following a successful career in animation he began working on comic books in 2021 contributing art to several smaller projects before making the jump to a full series with Mugshots. He also has a dog called Clive.
