Synopsis
There’s a hot new outer space-themed nightclub in Gotham City, and who better to rob it than Catwoman, Ivy, and Harley? But there’s more to this intergalactic discotheque than meets the eye(s), as the Sirens discover when they stumble headfirst into a plot to destroy the entire planet led by the club’s owner—the alien despot Despero! I hope you have good insurance, Gotham City, because you’re about to get wrecked. Special appearances by deadly DJs, hunky alien hotties, dancers dressed as aliens, mutant failures, one wild UFO, and lots and lots of fire!
Review
As the title suggests, Despero Times Call for Despero Measures. And yes—surprise!—the big bad of this arc is none other than Despero himself. The final pages of the last issue gave us a taste of his ruthlessness (decapitating henchmen with ease), and issue #2 confirms: this dude is not messing around.
We pick up right where we left off—inside the Lunaria Nightclub. The Sirens quickly discover that the mysterious weapon, The Conduit, is not some tech device but… a child. Cue the moral dilemma: do they let the kid out of the cage, or is it locked up for a very good, very dangerous reason?
As Ivy and Catwoman debate the logistics, Harley (of course) skips the back-and-forth and just walks up to the cage, asking, “Do you want letting out?” Her timing is perfect, her energy chaotic, and it naturally draws Despero’s attention… which doesn’t go well for anyone. And when Despero dramatically introduces himself, all three women look genuinely confused. “He must be new,” Catwoman quips. The writing here? Absolutely hilarious. If you love snide remarks and witty shade, this series is right up your alley.
We also get a stunning shot of the trio standing in a defensive circle, surrounded—very Avengers 2012-coded. It’s a cinematic moment that makes them feel powerful, composed, and dangerous as hell… even if they’re completely outmatched. Their first real showdown with Despero makes it painfully clear: he’s not street-level. This guy feels more Superman-tier, with a plan and power set that eclipses anything the Sirens are used to dealing with. That mismatch makes the stakes so much higher—and so much more exciting. The issue ends on a dark, chilling cliffhanger. The question remains: will all three Sirens even make it to issue #3?
Verdict
Issue #2 cranks up the pressure, the pace, and the peril. With razor-sharp humour, excellent team dynamics, and a villain that genuinely feels unstoppable, this series is shaping up to be a chaotic cosmic gem. The Sirens are in deep—and I can’t wait to see how (or if) they get out.
