The official KADOKAWA Anime YouTube Channel has posted a new behind-the-scenes documentary of the Netflix anime My Happy Marriage. The first installment of the documentary series was My Happy Marriage | The Direction & Animation Behind the Anime. The second new installment of the documentary series is now available on YouTube with English subtitles for fans to learn about the anime’s production process and all the details that went into making My Happy Marriage.

The second episode of the documentary series covers the process behind the anime’s Art and Effects. It introduces four different sections involved in the creation of “Cut #303”, including the Color Design, Background Art and Photography departments.

My Happy Mariage – The Art & Effects Behind The Anime #2

The documentary starts with a description of the anime’s color design. Color Designer Anna Okamatsu explains how in order to illustrate a brighter future for Miyo after she arrives at the Kudou Residence, she adjusted the overall color intensity and saturation of the scenes at both households. Therefore creating a color contrast between the Saimori and Kudou Residences, that would express a shift in the characters emotions through color.

If you’re fascinated by the artistry and process behind anime production, then this short little documentary offers a great insight into the way in which anime is created. While it’s impossible to cover everything in such a short amount of time, KadokawaAnime is actively seeking feedback ready for future installments. So if you do love this sort of thing, make sure you’re commenting and sharing. We’d love to see what they have planned next.

In the meantime, you’ll be glad to know that a second season of My Happy Marriage was recently confirmed via an adorable announcement from Reina Ueda (voice of Miyo Saimori) and Kaito Ishikawa (voice of Kiyoka Kudou).

Synopsis:

Despite being born into a noble family, Miyo lost her birth mother at a young age and grew up being abused by her stepmother and stepsister. When she finally receives news that she’s to be married off, she finds out that her husband-to-be is Kiyoka, a soldier with a reputation for being cruel and ruthless. In fact, he’s had numerous previous fiancés who have all fled his household; none lasting even a mere three days.

Resigned to the fact that her family has abandoned her, Miyo knocks on the gate of the Kudo household to find herself greeted by a beautiful man with pale skin. Despite the poor treatment she receives from her husband-to-be during their first meeting, Miyo is unable to return to her old home and spends her time cooking and doing chores. However, as the days pass, Miyo and Kiyoka begin to slowly open their hearts to each other…

My Happy Marriage premiered on Netflix on July 5, 2023. The anime is based on the Japanese light novel series written by Akumi Agitogi and illustrated by Tsukiho Tsukioka, published by KADOKAWA in Japan. The English version of the light novel is published by Yen Press and the English manga by Square Enix Manga & Books.
